It was built in the 12th century by Bolko I, the duke of Jawor, in order to protect the trade route to the Czech lands and to Jelenia Góra. Later it was extended by the dukes of Świdnica. It was one of the biggest castles in Silesia. The younger, Renaissance part from the 16th century has a rarely seen wedge-shaped tower. Annual knight tournaments and archery competitions take place in the castle in summer. An impressive panorama of the surroundings.
